On the evening of Wed 25^th November 2009 I took part in a fundraiser for the local school in Castlegargan Hotel, Ballygawley, Co. Sligo. This was a night of high glamour and style and beauty tips with Bernie Delaney (StyleCoach Sligo) speaking on how to dress and accessorise for your bodyshape, I spoke on nail care-how to do your own home manicures and pedicures in a recession, how to eat for strong and healthy nails and answered some frequently asked questions on gel nails. Maire from David Martin gave tips on hair care. The girls from Icon Spa did a make-up demonstration with Jane Iredale makeup. It was really successful event with over 120 ladies in attendance and it was the perfect event to hold in a recession with everyone enjoying 4 hours of free fashion, beauty and makeup tips!

To use acetone/non-acetone polish remover?

Acetone based removers are more effective in removing all traces of nail polish whereas non-acetone remover evaporates slower and often leaves a gum finish-it is recommended though to use non-acetone nail polish remover when changing nail polish on gel nails

Filing back and forth?

Filing ‘back and forth’is actually safe for the nail as long as you are using a 240 or higher grit file .

Tips for Short Nails

Dark polish looks great on short nails-TIP-avoid painting the sides of the nail to create the illusion of a longer more groomed nail. Paint one brush stroke in the middle of the nail and one either side straight up parallell to the sides of the nail to achieve this look.

How to care for your gel nail extensions

· Need to refill gel nails every 2-4wks depending on how fast your own nails grow out-Every 2 weeks for maximum results

· Gel Nails should not be used as tools

· Wear gloves when washing dishes, cleaning, gardening etc

· Try the different finishes

· Polish never chips when applied on top of gel nails-giving a long lasting glam finish and little maintanence which is ideal for us busy girls!

Nail Polish with a several coats really does take a full 12 hours to completely harden!

After polishing your nails will only be touch dry and to avoid those dreaded smudges you should avoid…

· Wearing Gloves

· Wearing Shoes or Socks (Flipflops are ideal)

· Putting your hands into your wallot, bag or pockets

· Washing Up

· Bathing in hot water
